AIRUS BIOGAS BOOSTER BLOWR FOR MALAYSIA BIOGAS PLANT-POME
- Malaysia's big opportunities for biogas can be seen in its untapped potential from processing and harvesting in the palm oil industry (POI).
- POI spans roughly 5.23 million hectares of fields. It currently accounts for RM53 billion in Gross National Income (GNI). The Palm Oil NKEA is targeted to increase by RM125 billion to reach RM178 billion by 2020.
- Until now, only a small number of facilities produce biogas as a welcome by-product from the vast number of waste products, such as palm oil mill effluent (POME), empty fruit bunches (EFB) and palm kernel shells (PKS).
- This is expected to change soon, since 2018 all palm oil mills will be required to be equipped with a methane capturing facility.
- As a major contributor to economic growth, Palm Oil NKEA Programme plans to implement eight core Entry Point Projects (EPPs) spanning the palm oil value chain. EPP is to build biogas facilities at mills across the country.
